Maharashtra has confirmed bird flu after 800 chickens found dead at Murumba village in Parbhani district, an official said. Bird flu has now spread to five districts. Bird flu has been confirmed in Mumbai, Thane, Parbhani, & Beed districts as well as in Dapoli of Ratnagiri district. Eleven crows were found dead in Mumbai's Chembur area on Sunday and the samples of dead crows were sent for examination.

Crows, parrots and hens died in Mumbai, Thane, Parbhani, Dapoli and Beed. Samples of these birds were sent to a laboratory in Bhopal. A report from the lab said the birds had died beacuse of bird flu. Therefore, the administration has been alerted and everyone has been ordered to be vigilant.

"Three days ago, 800 chickens in Murumba village died due to bird flu. The administration had sent blood samples of dead chickens to National Laboratory. Reports confirm that the chickens died of bird flu," the District Collector of Parbh area said.

In order to assess the situation arising out of the bird flu outbreak, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday will chair a meeting to review the bird flu situation in Maharashtra, officials said.

States like Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have confirmed spread of bird flu.
