A major tragedy was averted on Monday evening when a CNG-powered car caught fire outside the railway station in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Fortunately, the occupants—a husband, wife, and their three children—escaped just in time before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The Tata Tigor, owned by Yogesh Surase of Jai Bhawaninagar, caught fire while the family was en route to Mahanubhav Ashram. Surase noticed a whistling sound and smoke coming from the car. Sensing danger, he quickly evacuated his family moments before the vehicle was fully consumed by fire.

Given the presence of a CNG gas kit, the situation could have been catastrophic. However, prompt action by Vedantanagar Inspector Praveena Yadav, Traffic Department Assistant Inspector Vivek Jadhav, Anmaldar Kachru Haapse, and Sandeep Pradhan ensured that nearby people and vehicles were moved to safety.

Firefighters Wasim Pathan and Sandeep Chavan arrived quickly and controlled the fire before it could spread further. Fortunately, the CNG tank did not explode, preventing a larger disaster.

According to firefighter Sandeep Chavan, the fire likely started in the bonnet area, possibly due to engine overheating or a gas leak, which destroyed the engine. Authorities urge vehicle owners to use only company-approved and government-certified CNG kits, undergo frequent inspections, and address any issues immediately to prevent similar incidents.
