CBI has registered an FIR against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and others in connection with allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. Apart from this, the CBI has raided Deshmukh's house and 10 of his properties.

Deshmukh tendered his resignation to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on April 5 after the Bombay High Court order. The court also directed the agency to register an FIR if any cognizable offence is found.

The former top cop of Mumbai, Param Bir Singh, had levelled serious allegations of corruption against Deshmukh. Singh accused Deshmukh of interfering in police investigations and involving in severe "malpractices". Singh had earlier written a letter to CM Thackeray alleging that Deshmukh had indulged in "malpractices" and asked suspended Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze to collect Rs 100 crore every month.
