The number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra continue to rise. As many as 56,286 new COVID cases and 376 deaths were reported in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, the state health department informed on Thursday.

With this, the total positive cases now stands at 32,29,547, including 5,21,317 active cases, 26,49,757 recoveries and 57,028 deaths.

Considering the growing number of coronavirus cases in state, a three-week strict lockdown instead of a weekend lockdown will have to be imposed. The state authorities have imposed strict weekend lockdown on Saturday and Sunday.

However, looking at the present covid situation weekend lockdown will not be useful instead a strict lockdown of 3 weeks needs to be imposed, said Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vadettiwar. The minister said that three-week complete lockdown will help to curb the spread of the virus.

"We cannot save the lives of innocent people in Maharashtra without a three-week strict lockdown in the state. Because, Covid has spread in the state. Therefore, I will today request the Chief Minister to impose a three-week lockdown in state, ”Wadettivar told TV9. Therefore, it is likely that a strict lockdown will be announced in the state soon.

Local train services will also be closed?

The local train services in Mumbai resumed for genral public as people had started losing jobs due to lack of public transport. However, in view of the rapid growth of corona patients in and around Mumbai, it is necessary to reduce the congestion in the locals. The state government is seriously considering suspending local train services for general public and reinstating same restrictions as before, said Vijay Wadettiwar.
