The Central Railways on Friday stopped the sale of platform tickets with immediate effect at —Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kalyan, Thane, Dadar, Panvel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus stations, said CPRO, Central Railway. 

The objective of hiking the platform ticket price is to stop those who unnecessarily come to the station so that social distancing can be followed. Railways have been controlling the platform ticket rates in this way through the start of the corona pandemic.

The decision has been taken after surge in the coronavirus cases in Mumbai region. In February, the Railways had announced the "slight hike" in the ticket fares of short-distance passenger trains to discourage people from unnecessary travel.

Meanwhile, with a spike in Covid-19 cases, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday indicated that the Maharashtra government is considering implementing restrictions on Mumbai suburban train travel once again.Maharashtra continues to report rising covid cases in the state. As many as 56,286 new COVID cases and 376 deaths were reported in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, the state health department informed on Thursday.
