With cyclone Tauktae advancing over Mumbai, several parts of Mumbai and neighbouring areas are witnessing heavy downpour coupled with strong winds. Many areas have been without power since morning.  The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday upgraded the warning to extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai for the next few hours. Gusty wind will continue and escalate up to 120 kmph, informed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

With cyclone Tauktae advancing over Mumbai, BJP leader Nitesh Rane has called Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray 'panauti' (bringing bad luck).

Rane tookt to Twitter and wrote,"2 years of Uddhav Thackray Gov in Maharshtra..cyclone 2020 .. cyclone 2021..No.1 in COVID numbers n deaths in 2020 n 2021 .. story continues..Sub bura hi ho raha hai.. Panvatiyo ka baap hai ye boss !!"

The cyclone storm that originated over the east-central Arabian Sea has turned into an extremely severe cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is closely monitoring the cyclone situation in the state. As many as 12,420 citizens were relocated to safer places from the coastal areas so far.
