Vinod Shivkumar, deputy conservator of forest, Googamal Wildlife Division of Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR), has been arrested in connection with the suicide of female RFO Deepali Chavan and case of abetment to suicide has been registered. Shivkumar was arrested from Nagpur Railway station in the morning hours, said Amravati superintendent of police (rural) Dr Hari Balaji N.

"She told me that her seniors made her cry and insulted her in front of everyone. She finally died by suicide. The atrocities filed on her and many separate chargesheet againt her made her to take such extreme step. Nothing is gained when you work honestly. Eventually the system took its toll. She wrote in the suicide note what happened to her should not happen to others, so her last wish is that people behind her suicide should be arrested," said Deepali Chavan's husband Rajesh Mohite.

The victim in her suicide note implicated the accused and also blaming the MTR project director for not taking heed of her repeated complaints against the accused, it was stated. According to an FIR, the victim was allegedly tortured, harassed, insulted and abused by the accused, which drove her to suicide.

According to the police, Shivkumar was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the family of range forest officer Deepali Chavan (34). The accused will be produced before the court for his police custody remand, the official said.
