The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Sachin Vaze, a former assistant police inspector, in connection with the case involving an abandoned SUV found near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani was on Sunday sent to the agency's custody till March 25.

Sachin Vaze has been suspended from the police service following the NIA's action. Apart from this, the shocking information that has come to light from the NIA probe has increased Sachin Vaze's problems, which has also caused a stir in political circles.

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane on Monday alleged Yuva Sena (Shiv Sena''s youth wing) leader Varun Sardesai''s link with Vaze in extortion from bookies during the recent Indian Premier League (IPL). Rane alleged that during the recent IPL, Vaze called up some bookies and demanded Rs 1.5 crore, or else they would be arrested or raided.

"Did "Encounter specialist" also running a TRP case extortion racket?  Which media houses were victimised/ targeted?Truth must come out !Extortion mafia must b exposed ! Godfather & his cartel must be brought to justice!," tweeted BJP leader Ashish Shelar.

Vaze, who led the team that arrested journalist Arnab Goswami in November last year in a suicide abetment case, had joined the Shiv Sena while he was under suspension. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray recently said Waze was a member of the Shiv Sena till 2008.
