BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner IS Chahal on Monday warned the citizens of the city that authorities might have to impose night curfew to curb crowds and to prevent the violation of the COVID-19 norms.

Chahal said, we are worried about the increasing crowd in bars and restaurants. The establishments in the city are continuously violating the COVID-19 guidelines, he added.

“We are strongly against night curfew, but citizens should not create havoc around New Year’s time and force authorities to impose it.”

Late in November, Maharashtra government had extended the lockdown in the state till midnight, December 31. However, the government had also eased several restrictions and permitted major activities in the state. Hotels, bars, gyms, and places of worship were allowed to be reopened.

In Mumbai, 606 new cases and 12 new deaths were reported on Sunday, as the case counted mounted to 2.90 lakh. The state continues to rank on the top in coronavirus case tally in the country.
