'Drunk' man threatens 20-year-old with iron rod, rapes her

A man in Chembur, Mumbai allegedly raped a woman after threatening her with an iron rod. The incident took place at a secluded spot near Marine Drive between 3 am and 4 am on Saturday. Reportedly, the accused is married and stays with his wife. The survivor has been sent for a medical examination. The accused has been identified as Dhiraj Singh. On the day of the incident, the accused had gone to Marine Drive with a friend. The two women were returning to her residence at around 3 am. During this time, the accused was standing in a lane, holding an iron rod. The accused allegedly threatened the two women. The 20-year-old woman's friend escaped from the spot, leaving her alone with the accused. 

The accused took the woman to another lane where he allegedly raped her. Following the incident, the accused fled the spot and the woman approached the Chembur police. She lodged a complaint alleging rape and two special teams were formed to arrest the accused, The Times of India reported. The police nabbed the accused soon after the complaint was filed. The case is being probed by woman police inspector Manisha Shirke. The police is checking the CCTV footage of the area for further probe. Reportedly, the accused was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. He was been booked under section 376 (punishment for rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
