Maharashtra AIMIM president Imtiaz Jaleel has claimed that the Eknath Shinde–led Shiv Sena approached the party with a proposal to form an alliance for the Malegaon local body elections 2026. Speaking to reporters, Jaleel said the offer was made after the AIMIM secured a significant number of seats in the Malegaon Municipal Corporation.

“We received a proposal from the Eknath Shinde–led Shiv Sena suggesting that since our candidates have been elected in Malegaon, we should form a coalition. However, our stand was clear from the beginning that we will not align with anyone,” Jaleel said.

Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM delivered a strong performance in the Maharashtra municipal elections 2026, winning 21 seats in the Malegaon Municipal Corporation. Jaleel reiterated that the party would not consider any alliance with the Shinde faction, especially in Malegaon.

“Under no circumstances will we go with Eknath Shinde in a place like Malegaon. We will not align with those who are with the BJP,” he said.

Jaleel also stated that the AIMIM has not formed any alliances for the Zilla Parishad elections so far and will contest independently. “A five-member committee has been constituted, and people from all communities have submitted their nomination forms to us,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Islam Party emerged as the single largest party in the Malegaon Municipal Corporation elections, winning 35 seats. The total strength of the corporation is 81 members. The Islam Party and the Samajwadi Party had contested the elections as part of an alliance called the Malegaon Secular Front.

Of the 62 seats in the eastern part of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation, the contest was largely between the Islam Party and the AIMIM. The Islam Party won 35 seats, while the AIMIM secured 21. In Malegaon West, where the Shiv Sena and BJP had staked their political reputation, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 18 seats, while the BJP managed to win only two.

Malegaon Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026:
