The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has invited tenders for the construction of the first Unity Mall in Maharashtra, marking a significant step towards empowering small entrepreneurs, artisans, and weavers across the state. This upcoming mall in the newly developed Ulwe node of Navi Mumbai promises to be a vibrant hub for showcasing and selling locally produced goods, aligning with the Central government's vision for boosting economic development through initiatives like the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.

The concept of Unity Malls was unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget for 2023-24, aiming to provide dedicated platforms for local businesses in state capitals and other key centers. Maharashtra has taken the lead by choosing Navi Mumbai's Ulwe node for its first Unity Mall, entrusting CIDCO with the project's implementation.

CIDCO has floated a tender to appoint a contractor for the construction of Unity Mall which will come up at Sector-12 in the Ulwe node of Navi Mumbai. The project would cost around Rs 143 crores.

“CIDCO, taking the lead in this initiative, has commenced the implementation process. We had appointed a project consultant for master planning, architectural, and structural design. Now, based on the detailed project report, a tender has been floated to bring the Unity Mall vision to reality,” said an official attached to the project.

As per the tender document, the Unity Mall will be ready within two years after awarding the contract. The mall will be a ground plus six storey building with adequate parking arrangement in the basement and it is located near the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) also known as Atal Setu which will be opened for public on January 12.

As per the central government, the Unity Mall will serve as a comprehensive platform for promoting and selling handicrafts, Geographical Indication (GI) products, and other locally produced items. This inclusive approach aims to benefit not only entrepreneurs but also farmers and women self-help groups across all districts of Maharashtra.
