Mumbai is battling Coronavirus as the city has highest number of cases, now the citizens are facing another problem which is inflated power bills.

Many people living in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane have got received high amount of electricity bills. According to TOI report, many resident have received bills that are eight times the normal bills expected during summers.

Earlier, it was reported that the customers may receive higher electricity bills in June as they would be sent according to 'actual meter readings.'

Consumers who have got inflated bills are from areas-Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai-that are supplied by MSEDCL, Adani Electricity and Tata Power. However, BEST is yet to distribute power bills for June month.

"My electricity consumption per month ranges from Rs 1600 to 1,800 and summer bills vary from 2,700 to 3,200.  However, the amount I have been charged for the June is Rs 16,000 which is exceptionally high," the report quoted Sibi Sathyan, a Navi Mumbai resident.

On Monday, residents from various areas including Panvel, Kamothe and Kharghar protested outside offices of power distribution companies demanding revision.

"The meter readers have started visiting residential areas to note down readings. This will take into account the consumption from March to May. People have been billed less as there were no meter readings during this period. People were charged on an average basis. But now the bill will be higher," said Anil Kamble, MSEDCL spokesperson.
