A state transport bus crashed into Platform 3 at Ambad bus station Thursday afternoon, resulting in two fatalities and five injuries, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. as the bus (No. MH.20 B.L.1606) was leaving the Ambad depot for Sillod. The driver lost control near Platform 1, causing the bus to veer into Platform 3 and collide with passengers, according to depot chief Ranveer Kolpe.
Seven passengers were thrown from the bus. The victims, Muralidhar Anandrao Kale, 50, from Shevga, and Sheikh Khalil Sheikh Ullah, 40, from Juna Jalna, later died from their injuries at the hospital.
The five injured passengers, currently at District General Hospital in Jalna, include: Anita Bandu Gunjal, 30, from Phule Nagar, Ambad, Parvati Dhoniram Navghare, 30, from Jamdaye, Hingoli, Pooja Kaduba Dhotre, 4 Hina Aleem Sheikh, 30, from Dhakalgaon Rehana Sheikh Aleem, 1, from Dhakalgaon
After an inspection, mechanical engineer Chalan Jalna found no faults with the bus. A formal inquiry is underway, and the transport corporation has committed to covering the medical expenses for the injured.
