Kolhapur Accident: A 12-years old boy died after two-wheeler he was riding along with his maternal uncle collided with a tempo. Boy identified as Atharva Prakash Kanade was traveling to his maternal grandparents house for vacation. This accident, which took place on Tuesday March 17, 2026 evening in the Kagal MIDC area. Deceased father Prakash Kanade, who was in Dubai reached his village within just 18 hours. The final rites for his son were performed in Belgundi on Wednesday afternoon March 18, 2026. The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over both Belgundi and Sajani the village of his maternal grandparents.
Prakash Kanade, an engineer hailing from Belgundi, has been working for a company in Dubai for the past eight years. As soon as the conflict involving Israel, the United States, and Iran erupted, his family back home grew increasingly anxious about his safety. His wife, children, mother, and father all reside in the village. After finishing his sixth-grade examinations, Atharva called his maternal uncle to ask for a ride to his grandparents' home in Sajani for the holidays. On Tuesday, he left for the village with his uncle on a two-wheeler.
The accident occurred at the BSNL Chowk within the Kagal Five-Star MIDC area when their two-wheeler collided with a tempo. In this horrific crash, Atharva who was seated in front on the two-wheeler was thrown forward and ended up trapped beneath the wheels of the tempo. He sustained severe injuries and died instantly at the scene. In the same accident, his maternal uncle, Sandeep Vishwanath Shete , and another 14-year-old niece sustained minor injuries.
The tragic accident and sudden death of their bright, playful son has devastated the Kanade and Shete families. Their grief was compounded by the agonizing uncertainty of Prakash's return from Dubai, given the war situation. Relatives informed Prakash of the tragedy by phone, urging his immediate return. He managed to secure a last-minute flight and reached the village within 18 hours.

Atharva's body was preserved in a mortuary until his father's arrival, whereupon the funeral rites were performed. The entire village, along with relatives, mourned deeply. Expressions of sorrow and sympathy resounded throughout Belgundi and Sajani.
