Kolhapur: Fire broke out at fruit godown on Dalal market road near Reliance Mall in Laxmipuri around 11 pm on Sunday, causing a loss of about Rs 15,000. Fruits and empty boxes were burnt to ashes in the fire. The fire was brought under control before it could spread widely due to the prompt action of the fire brigade.

According to information received from the scene, Shahrukh Bagwan has a fruit godown on Dalal Market Road near Reliance Mall. He had closed the godown around 9 pm on Sunday and gone home. Around 11 pm, a resident of the area, Milind Dighe, noticed smoke coming from the godown. He immediately informed the fire brigade. He also tried to control the fire by mobilizing the citizens of the area.

Meanwhile, fire brigades from Tara Rani Fire Station and Pratibha Nagar Fire Station reached the spot. Fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control in just fifteen minutes. According to preliminary estimates, the fire is likely to have been caused by sparks from fireworks. The fire was brought under control in time, averting major damage.
