Under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana scheme launched by the Maharashtra Government, Rs 1,500 per month is being deposited into the bank accounts of eligible women. However, by the end of February 2025, many beneficiaries have yet to receive their 8th installment, raising concerns about the delay. Women have raised questions regarding why the February installment has not been credited and when the funds will be transferred.

Many women who do not meet the scheme's eligibility criteria have been receiving its benefits. The government has initiated the process of identifying and disqualifying such ineligible beneficiaries of Ladki Bahin Yojana. As a result, the implementation of the scheme's criteria has led to the exclusion of nearly 9 lakh women so far from the scheme, say media reports.

Verification is currently underway across various parts of Maharashtra. Anganwadi workers are identifying women who own four-wheelers and have availed benefits under the Ladki Bahinscheme. However, this verification process has not yet been completed, which is the primary reason for the delay in disbursing the February installment. Once the verification is concluded, the pending installment will be credited to the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.

According to reports, women who have not received the February installment need not worry. Beneficiaries verified in the first week of March who did not receive their February payment will receive Rs 3,000 directly, covering both months. With 9 lakh women being declared ineligible, the government is expected to save Rs 135 crore per month, amounting to approximately Rs 1,600 crore annually.

Among the women benefiting from the Ladki Bahin Yojana, 83% are married, 11.8% are unmarried, and 4.7% are widows. The number of divorced and destitute women among the beneficiaries is less than 1%, with 0.3% being divorced and 0.1% classified as destitute.
