Ladki Bahin Yojana New Rules: The Maharashtra government has introduced new criteria for the "Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana" to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive benefits under the scheme. As the eighth installment approaches, the government is taking measures to address concerns over misuse.

Under the new criteria, the tax records of beneficiaries will be examined for verification. Additionally, women beneficiaries will be required to complete annual e-KYC to ensure the benefits reach only those in need.

What are the new criteria ?

  • Beneficiaries must undergo KYC every year between June 1 and July 1.

  • The Income Tax Department will now be involved in verifying the eligibility of beneficiaries by reviewing their tax records.
  • There will be checks to ensure that beneficiaries are alive.
  • Women with an income exceeding ₹2.5 lakh will no longer be eligible for the benefits.
  • A re-evaluation will take place at the district level to remove those who do not meet the criteria.

This move follows the discovery that many ineligible women were receiving benefits. Recently, more than 500,000 beneficiaries were removed from the scheme due to ineligibility. A verification process is currently underway to ensure only eligible beneficiaries continue receiving the benefits.
