Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday said the increase in monthly assistance under the ‘Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ would be implemented only after the state’s financial situation improves.

Currently, beneficiaries receive ₹1,500 per month. The state government had promised to raise this amount to ₹2,100 if the ruling alliance returned to power in the 2024 Assembly elections.

Pawar addressed the issue in the Assembly, responding to growing criticism from the opposition over the delay in fulfilling the promise. He clarified that the additional assistance would only be provided when the government’s financial condition allows it.

His statement indicates that women eligible for the scheme will have to wait longer to receive the promised ₹2,100 per month.
