A 55-year-old man died on the spot, while another person was critically injured after a vehicle struck a bike they are travelling on in Maharashtra's Latur district earlier on Thursday, April 10. The accident occurred near Ausa tea-point in Ausa Tehsil.

The incident took place during the peak hours at around 10 am on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Balaji Ram More, age 55, resident of Yakatpur. Balaji and his brother Netaji Ram More were coming back to their village after visiting their sister at Selu when an unidentified vehicle crashed into their motorcycle and fled the spot, said a police official.

Netaji was rushed to the nearby hospital by locals after the accident, and his condition was said to be stable, while Balaji died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.  Balaji is survived by his two sons and a daughter, and he used to work in agriculture.

The Nagpur–Ratnagiri (361) National Highway passes through the town of Ausa, which is constantly congested with goods and heavy vehicles. People are losing their lives in accidents on this highway, and someone must be held accountable. MNS district chief Shivkumar Nagrale has demanded that a flyover be constructed at T Point Chowk as soon as possible.

Police said they are investigating the accident through CCTV and are in the process of registering a case.
