The Latur Municipal Corporation commissioner in Maharashtra was airlifted to Mumbai on Monday morning for additional medical care after allegedly attempting suicide by shooting himself with a gun. Latur civic chief Babasaheb Manohare was airlifted from the airport via a green corridor that was established between the city's Sahyadri Hospital and the airport, said a police official. According to Dr. Hanumant Kinikar, director of Sahyadri Hospital, Manohare has been sent to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for early intervention for neurorehabilitation. Surgery was done in an emergency. Dr. Kinikar said the bullet caused severe bleeding after piercing the right side of the head. He said that Manohare's condition had been stabilised by doctors and that he was reacting favourably to the therapy.
Initial reports stated that Manohare ate dinner and had a normal chat with his family before withdrawing to his room. A gunshot was heard a few moments later, and family members found him seriously wounded. He was taken to Sahyadri Hospital in Latur right away.

On October 20, 2022, Manohare became the civic head of Latur. Known for being an outspoken and severe disciplinarian, Manohare has served in the Marathwada region's Dharashiv and Nanded districts. He was promoted to Municipal Commissioner after first serving as the Latur Municipal Corporation's Additional Commissioner. Both the local government and the community have been shaken by the tragedy.
