Comedian Kunal Kamra on Thursday released a satirical video mocking the recent scuffle in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly between BJP and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) members. The video, shared on social media, features real clips of the altercation edited with Kamra’s controversial “Hum Honge Kamyaab” song.
He captioned the post as “lawbreakers.” The video also featured visuals of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, in what appeared to be a direct jab at the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
The same song had earlier drawn controversy when Kamra performed it during his stand-up special “Naya Bharat” in March. In that performance, he referred to Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor), sparking sharp reactions from Shinde’s supporters. Following the special, members of the Shiv Sena’s youth wing Yuva Sena vandalised the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar area, where Kamra had recorded the show. Kamra has refused to apologise and condemned the vandalism.
The latest video is seen as a continuation of Kamra’s criticism of Maharashtra’s political leadership.
The post came hours after a physical confrontation broke out at the Maharashtra Legislature complex between supporters of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and NCP-SP leader Jitendra Awhad. Video footage showed both sides in a heated exchange outside the Assembly building.
Speaking to reporters, Awhad alleged that he was verbally abused and physically threatened. “The whole of Maharashtra knows who attacked me,” he said. “We are being asked for proof again and again while the entire country has seen the video. Goons are entering the Assembly. I was abused with words like ‘dog’ and ‘pig’ and threatened with death. Is this what we should expect in the Assembly?”
Awhad also raised concerns about the safety of MLAs. “If we are not safe in the Vidhan Sabha, then why should we continue as MLAs?” he said.
