Tension prevailed at the Beed district court on Tuesday after a practising lawyer was allegedly assaulted by a group of people on the court premises, triggering protests by members of the legal fraternity. According to police and eyewitnesses, Adv Ram Dongre, a member of the local bar association, was attending to his work at the court around noon when a group of individuals, including Radmakisan Karpe, approached him. The group allegedly engaged in a heated argument with the lawyer and verbally abused him before physically assaulting him.

Following the incident, Dongre and members of the lawyers' association brought the matter to the notice of the presiding judge and later rushed to the Shivajinagar police station to lodge a complaint. Police Inspector Praveenkumar Bangar said that a woman had also filed a complaint against Adv Dongre in connection with the incident. He assured the lawyers that their complaint would also be registered and appropriate action would be taken. Dissatisfied with the police response, a large number of agitated lawyers later marched to the office of the Superintendent of Police, demanding strict action against those involved in the assault.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among members of the legal community and created a stir in the district, with lawyers condemning the attack and seeking measures to ensure security within court premises. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
