Renowned physician Dr Gautam Bhansali of Bombay Hospital was honoured with the prestigious Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year 2026 (LMOTY) award for his exceptional contribution to healthcare and public service. The recognition is being presented at a grand ceremony celebrating individuals who have made a significant impact in their respective fields. A leading expert in infectious diseases, Dr Bhansali has played a key role in treating patients suffering from COVID-19, dengue, malaria, tuberculosis and HIV. Beyond his clinical practice, he also mentors two postgraduate students every year at Bombay Hospital, helping shape the next generation of medical professionals.
‘Angel’ During the COVID Crisis
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Bhansali emerged as a lifeline for thousands. For two consecutive years, he provided free online consultations to more than 8,000 COVID patients without charging any fee. Through the Golden Hour Foundation and other NGOs, he also facilitated free vaccination drives worth nearly ₹3 crore in Mumbai’s slum areas, ensuring that underserved communities received timely protection during the health crisis.
Mission to Spread CPR Awareness
Understanding the importance of the golden hour in saving lives, Dr Bhansali founded the Golden Hour Foundation to promote CPR awareness. Under this initiative, he has conducted over 1,500 training camps across India, teaching people life-saving techniques. A special awareness song created for the campaign by singer Shaan and lyricist Manoj Muntashir was launched by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Research and Academic Work
Apart from clinical service, Dr Bhansali has also made significant contributions to medical research. More than 10 of his research papers have been published in international journals. He is also a member of the Academic Board of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). Through his dedication to patient care, research and social initiatives, Dr Gautam Bhansali continues to inspire the medical community and society at large.
