The Maharashtra government gave permission to the state's Anti-Corruption Bureau to open inquiry against Former Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh. The decision came after a complaint was filed against Singh by Police Inspector Anup Dange who was suspended earlier.

Dange had alleged that Singh's relative had asked Rs 2 crore from him to reinstate him. The suspended cop in his letter to Maharashtra's chief minister, home ministry highlighted Param Bir Singh's link with the criminal elements. He also alleged taht that in November 2019, when he went to shut down a pub in south Mumbai, the owner claimed to know Singh well. Dange, however, went on to file a complaint after a scuffle broke out outside the pub while the police were taking action against the pub.

Dange's letter came at a time when relations between the MVA government and Singh turned ugly following his letter accusing former home minister Anil Deshmukh  indulged in "malpractices" and asked suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crores every month.corruption.
