Latur, Maharashtra (February 3, 2026): Two youths stabbed a 32-year-old man to death to settle an old dispute at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk. The victim was identified as Prajwal alias Gotya Sanjay Mhaske. His twin brother, Atish Mhaske, narrowly escaped the attack. Police arrested both accused early Monday and a court remanded them to five days’ police custody.
According to the reports, the incident took place around 11 p.m. on Feb. 2 on a busy road near Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk. Complainant Atish Babasaheb Maske, 33, a resident of Buddh Nagar, Latur, was walking with his twin brother Prajwal when the accused — Ganesh Gaikwad and Bhima Suryavanshi, both residents of Anand Nagar, Latur — stopped them.
The accused reportedly began abusing the brothers over an old dispute. In a fit of anger, Ganesh Gaikwad allegedly stabbed Prajwal repeatedly in the stomach. Prajwal collapsed in a pool of blood and died on the spot.
At the same time, Bhima Suryavanshi allegedly attacked Atish Maske with a sickle. However, Atish managed to dodge the blow and survived.
After receiving information, Inspector Santosh Patil of Vivekanand Chowk police station rushed to the spot and began the investigation. Both accused fled after the incident but were arrested early Monday from the Katpur area by a team led by Subhash Khobragade.
A case has been registered at Vivekanand Chowk police station under the various Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused were produced before a Latur court on Monday afternoon, which granted five days’ police custody.
