The Maharashtra government informed the state Assembly on Tuesday that strict action has been taken against several bike taxi operators for violating regulations. Authorities have penalised 930 bike taxis and collected a total of Rs 23.92 lakh in fines. The update came after the government cancelled the provisional licences earlier granted to aggregator companies that were allowed to operate bike taxi services in the state. The issue was discussed during the Assembly session after members raised concerns regarding the functioning and safety of such services. The action reflects the government’s efforts to tighten enforcement and ensure that bike taxi operations follow the rules laid down by the authorities.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik told the Assembly that the action was carried out under the Maharashtra Bike Taxi Rules, 2025. As part of the enforcement drive, authorities also registered 20 cases at different police stations against violators. The matter was raised in the Assembly by legislator Rais Shaikh along with three other members, who sought clarification on the government’s response to complaints related to bike taxi operations. The minister stated that the government has been closely monitoring the situation and taking legal measures against operators who fail to comply with the prescribed guidelines and transport regulations.

The state government had earlier granted provisional licences to three aggregator companies, permitting them to run bike taxi services on the condition that the vehicles used must be electric. However, several public representatives later raised concerns that the bikes being used for passenger transport were unsafe and could pose risks to commuters. In response to these complaints, the authorities launched inspections to verify whether the services were operating according to the approved norms. The transport department then began checking vehicles and documents to identify violations, which eventually led to penalties and legal action against operators found breaching the rules.
