Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who holds the finance portfolio in the state Assembly, tabled the Devendra Fadnavis -led Mahayuti government’s Budget for the 2025-26 fiscal on Monday. All eyes were on whether the promises made during the elections would be fulfilled in this budget. The leaders of the Maha-Yuti coalition had promised to increase the monthly stipend for the "Ladki Bahin Yojana" from ₹1500 to ₹2100 during the election campaign. The government’s position on this was clarified in the budget.
Will the Monthly Stipend for 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' Stay at ₹1500?
The state government has allocated ₹36,000 crore for the "Ladki Bahin Yojana." However, it has been made clear that the monthly stipend will remain ₹1500. Finance Minister Ajit Pawar did not announce any increase to ₹2100. Prior to the budget, BJP leaders had indicated the possibility of such a hike. BJP leader and Legislative Council member Pravin Darekar emphasized the importance of stabilizing the state's finances. He expressed confidence that under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ leadership, the government had laid a solid economic plan for the next 20-25 years. Darekar also acknowledged that large-scale initiatives like the "Ladki Bahin Yojana," which cost thousands of crores, are designed to help the poor but would inevitably put a strain on the state's economy.
AI Training for 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' Beneficiaries
In another significant announcement for the "Ladki Bahin Yojana," the state government revealed a partnership with tech giant Microsoft. Through this partnership, thousands of women in Maharashtra will receive training in artificial intelligence (AI). Finance Minister Ajit Pawar emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader focus on skill development and women’s empowerment in the state.
