A 17-year-old student, worried about her performance in recent exams, died by suicide at her home in Kolhapur on Tuesday evening. The girl, identified as Sanchita Laxman Kadav from Shivaji Peth, Juna Vashi Naka area, had recently appeared for her Class 12 exams and feared she would score low marks after finding some papers difficult.

Her parents had tried to comfort her, telling her not to worry and to be satisfied with whatever marks she received. However, Sanchita grew increasingly anxious. On Tuesday evening, she locked herself in her room. When family members called out to her, she did not respond. After some time, they broke into the room and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a saree.

Her father sells flowers near the Central Bus Stand, while her mother is a homemaker. The incident came to light after her family went to check on her around 7 p.m. and rushed her to CPR Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before treatment.

She is survived by her parents and sister. The family's grief was heart-wrenching. The incident has been recorded at the CPR police outpost.
