A decomposed body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside a suitcase near the Mumbai-Goa Highway, close to Durshet village in Pen taluka of Raigad district, on Monday morning, triggering alarm among local residents.Villagers, alerted by a strong foul odor, investigated and found a large suitcase abandoned in a roadside pit. Suspecting something was amiss, they promptly notified local authorities. “The foul odour prompted the village sarpanch to alert the police. A team was immediately dispatched to investigate,” an officer stated.

The suitcase was discovered around 10:30 am. Upon opening it, police found the badly decomposed body of a woman. “The extent of decomposition suggested that she had been dead for several days,” said Police Inspector Sandeep Bagul. “Prima facie, the victim appeared to be around 25 years old. However, the exact age and cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem report comes in.” The deceased woman was found wearing a nightgown. Authorities have formed a specialized team to review missing person reports in the area. A murder case has been registered, and a comprehensive investigation is now underway.
