A tragic incident has been reported where a farmer died due to an electric shock while irrigating his sugarcane crop. The deceased has been identified as Suresh Pandurang Thorat (44). The incident occurred at around 7:30 am in Chandoli Budruk village in Ambegaon taluka. Suresh Thorat owned farmland adjacent to his house, where he had cultivated sugarcane. On Monday morning, after the electricity supply resumed around 7:00 am, he went to his field to irrigate the crop. After starting the electric pump and allowing water to flow into the field, he began watering the sugarcane. An electric iron pole stood in the field, which had been damaged a few days earlier after being hit by a vehicle, causing it to tilt. Despite repeated requests, the electricity department had not repaired the pole. The cable attached to the pole had been cut, allowing electric current to pass through the earthing wire of the iron pole. While filling water near the pole, Thorat accidentally came into contact with it and received a severe electric shock, collapsing on the spot. He remained stuck to the pole for some time.

Later, a local resident, Vaman Tulshiram Thorat, who had come there for a morning walk, noticed the incident and raised an alarm. Hearing his cries, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and immediately took Suresh Thorat to a private hospital in Manchar for treatment. Doctors there advised shifting him to the sub-district hospital in Manchar, where he was declared dead before treatment.
As news of the incident spread, villagers gathered at the hospital. Officials from the electricity distribution company visited the site for inspection. The incident has triggered grief and anger in the area, with villagers criticizing the negligence of the electricity department.
Angry villagers have refused to take custody of the body until compensation is provided to the family. A crowd also gathered at the Manchar police station, expressing their outrage. Thorat is survived by his parents, wife, and two young children. Villagers have demanded that the electricity distribution company provide compensation to the bereaved family.
