Bhandara police have registered an FIR against singer Anjali Bharti for making objectionable remarks against Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. According to the ANI, the case has been filed under Sections 79, 356(2), and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which relates to publishing or transmitting objectionable content in electronic form.

Bharti, singer and YouTuber, reportedly made the comments at a programme in Bhandara district while speaking on sexual violence against women.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women took cognisance of the remarks. State women’s commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar directed the Bhandara superintendent of police and district collector to take action, citing the viral video as evidence.

The comments drew condemnation from leaders across party lines. Former Mumbai mayor and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Kishori Pednekar and Maharashtra BJP women’s wing president Chitra Wagh condemned Bharti’s comments, calling them offensive and demanding legal action.
