Incessant torrential rains played havoc with normal life in western and coastal Maharashtra since the past 24 hours, disrupting normal life even as rescue teams were deployed to shift thousands marooned in different towns, officials said here on Thursday.

CM Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray today held an emergency meeting to take stock of the flood situation in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts caused due to torrential rains in the last 24 hours.

He made the following points;

  1. The IMD has given warnings of extremely heavy rainfall in the next three days & has issued a red & orange alert for the region.
  2. The CM has directed the Disaster Management units & concerned departments to stay vigilant and start rescue operations immediately.
  3. Water levels in the rivers are constantly rising; hence citizens staying close by are advised to take adequate precautions & co-operate with the administration.
  4. Alternate arrangements must be made at sites that have active COVID patients.

Heavy rains have lashed coastal districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg resulting in big and small rivers swelling above the danger levels. Several towns and cities like Chiplun Khed, Sawantwadi, Mangaon, Kudal, and others were inundated with three to six feet water, and higher levels in some lowlying areas.
