The Maharashtra government has decided that 12,500 more police personnel will be recruited in the state police, State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh released a statement. Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had said in the month of July, "10,000 constables will be recruited to strengthen law and order and reduce the work tension of the police force." Apart from this, the women battalion of the State Reserve Police Force will also be established at Katolatuka in Nagpur.Ajit Pawar had said that the move would help the youth from both urban and rural areas as they would get an opportunity to serve in the police force. Pawar has directed the officials to ensure that the recruitment process is completed within a year. He has asked the officials to place a proposal before the state cabinet. 

He had said that in addition, 1,384 posts would be created in the Women's Battalion and the recruitment would be completed in three phases. 461 posts will be filled in each phase. On the other hand, as many as 371 Maharashtra police personnel tested positive for the novel coronavirus, while eight succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Maharashtra police informed in a press statement on Tuesday.So far, a total of 19,756 police officers have contracted the infection, out of which 202, including 20 officers, have died.While 15,830 policemen have recovered from the infection, 3,724 at present are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the state.
