Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra (February 21, 2025): A 28-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her lover in Vambori, Rahuri taluka, late Wednesday night. The accused later surrendered at the Vamboripolice outpost.
Police identified the victim as Sonali Raju Jadhav. The accused, 53-year-old Sakharam Dhondiba Walkoli, is also a resident of Pune district's Ambegaon taluka.
According to police, Sonali and Sakharam were in a relationship and lived together for some time. Recently, Sonali left him and returned to her husband. She later contacted Sakharam, demanding money and threatening to file a case against both her husband and him if he refused to support her.
Frustrated by her threats, Sakharam planned the attack. On Wednesday evening, Sonali traveled from Pune to Ahilyanagar, where she met Sakharam at the bus stand. He took her to a hilly area near Panchmukhi Mahadev Temple in Vambori.
A heated argument broke out between them. Sakharam attacked Sonali with a wooden stick and stones before using a sickle to behead her.
After committing the crime, Sakharam went to the Vambori police outpost and confessed. Senior police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Kalubarme and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dr. Basavaraj Shivpuje, reached the scene. Police recovered Sonali’s severed head and body and sent them for a postmortem at the district hospital.
Rahuri police arrested Sakharam Walkoli and registered a case based on a complaint by Police Naik Sunil Nikam. The investigation is ongoing.
