A 38-year-old man, Shakeel Mustafa Siddiqui, has been arrested and remanded in police custody for the alleged murder of his pregnant, 18-year-old girlfriend in Maharashtra's Gondia district. Siddiqui is accused of strangling the woman and then burning her body in a secluded forest area.The couple had been in a relationship, but Siddiqui allegedly wanted to end it after she became pregnant and wanted to stay with him.

Police, led by station in-charge Ajay Bhusari, discovered the completely burned remains of a body in a field.  An investigation was immediately launched, and Siddiqui was apprehended within hours. He was presented in court and remanded to police custody. The investigation was transferred to the local crime branch and Goregaon police. Multiple teams were formed to identify the victim and determine the circumstances of her death. During questioning, Siddiqui confessed to the crime, Inspector Bhusari said. Siddiqui admitted to strangling the woman with a dupatta on February 10 in a field in Devutola. He then covered her body with a sheet and straw before setting it on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
