A 28-year-old woman has filed a rape case against an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer at Imamwada Police Station, Nagpur, alleging that he established a physical relationship with her under the false promise of marriage.

According to police sources, the woman, an MBBS student, came into contact with the accused through Instagram in November 2022. At the time, the man was preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams.

Their initial social media interactions soon developed into frequent phone calls, eventually leading to a romantic relationship. The woman stated that the man promised to marry her and later engaged in a physical relationship based on that assurance.

However, after being selected for the IPS, the accused allegedly began to distance himself from the woman and refused to go ahead with the marriage. The complainant also claimed that his family ignored her attempts to contact them, leaving her distressed.

The woman approached Imamwada police with her complaint on Friday, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Saturday under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rape. A further investigation into the case is currently underway.
