Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday said the state government is taking all steps to ensure the quota given to the Maratha community in jobs and education will remain intact.

The Supreme Court recently passed an interim order staying implementation of 2018 law that granted reservation to the Maratha community.

The Maharashtra government two years ago enacted the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act, 2018, to provide reservation to Maratha community.

Last year in June, the Bombay High Court upheld the law stating that 16 per cent reservation was not justifiable and it should not breach 12 per cent in jobs and 13 per cent in education.

Deshmukh also said the state government will try to give justice to all sections of society when it carries out recruitment of 12,528 police constables.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday said that the state government has decided that 12,500 more police personnel will be recruited in its police force.

"Chief Minister Uddhavji Thackeray has proposed to implement the recruitment process for 12,538 vacancies in the police force and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has approved the proposal. I thank both of them for that. Good luck to the examinees for the preparation," Deshmukh said.
