Maharashtra RTE Admission 2025: Only 1,148 Students Secure Seats in Private Schools Under 25% Quota

Admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 25% reserved seats in private English-medium schools across the state have begun. The education department has released the first merit list, confirming admissions for 1,148 students in Mumbai. The remaining students must secure their admissions by Friday, February 28, 2025.

Under RTE, students from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections are provided free education in 25% of seats in self-financed, private unaided, and permanently unaided schools across the state. The objective is to ensure quality education for students from these backgrounds. This year, a total of 6,053 seats were available under RTE admissions in Mumbai city and suburban districts, for which 13,166 students applied. RTE admissions are being conducted in 255 schools in the suburban district and 72 schools in the city district, with 4,685 seats available in the suburbs and 1,368 in the city.

Schools offering admissions – 327.Seats available – 6,053.Applications received – 13,166.Students shortlisted in the first merit list – 5,157.Admissions confirmed by Monday – 1,148.

The education department has started the admission process for these seats. In the first selection list, 5,157 students have been shortlisted—3,808 from Mumbai suburbs and 1,349 from the city. So far, 856 students in the suburbs and 292 in the city have confirmed their admissions. The admission process began on February 14, 2025, but in the past ten days, only 1,148 students have secured admission. The remaining students must complete their admissions by February 28, 2025.
