State wide protest will be organised by Maharashtra transport action committee (M-TAC) from midnight on March 5, 2026. This protest has been organised failed to provide a solution to the e-challan system, which according to the transporters, is being misused and leading to unfair penalties.

In this protest, truck, tempos, tourist  school buses, taxis, private cabs, and autorickshaws are expected to join. This may cause a shortage of buses and road-related disruptions. Therefore, students and parents may be wondering if a holiday will be declared on March 5, 2026. Currently, neither the state nor school administrations have announced closures. We will provide updates upon official confirmation.

Demands of transport unions regarding e-challans

  • A review and amendment of the e-challan system, which they argue is being misused
  • Drivers are facing unfair penalties, including multiple fines for the same offense and harassment from enforcement officers
  • Demands to waive existing penalties and provide more equitable treatment for transport operators

After inconclusive negotiations at the Transport Commissioner's office on Wednesday, the Maharashtra Transport Action Committee (M-TAC) announced an indefinite strike starting at midnight. M-TAC representatives stated that transporters will demonstrate at Azad Maidan in Mumbai and at RTO premises statewide.

Protesters also warned they would bring their vehicles to key locations. Anil Garg, a leader of the School Bus Owners Association, announced that school buses across the state would not operate from Friday if the strike proceeds, though services would continue as normal on Thursday.

While pedestrians and commuters may remain unaffected, students relying on school buses could face disruptions. As a result, many are wondering whether classes will be moved online or cancelled on Friday, March 6, 2026.
