The temperature in Maharashtra's capital city Mumbai decreased slightly over the weekend, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional observatory in Santacruz recorded 35.3 degrees Celsius on Monday, March 3. IMD predicted a rise in temperature from March 8, which could reach 37 to 38 degrees Celsius.

The coastal observatory Colaba reported a temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, March 2. While Mumbai's temperature remained above normal, it marked a significant drop from the previous week, when maximum temperatures reached an eight-year high of 38.7 degrees Celsius on February 26.

The city's temperature over the last three days has been 38 degrees Celsius, prompting the IMD to issue a heatwave alert for the coastal region. Experts attributed the spell of hot weather in February to a winter rainfall deficit.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid weather conditions in the neighbouring districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.  In Mumbai, IMD predicted that the maximum temperatures will hover in the 34-35 degrees Celsius range until Friday, following which a significant spike is imminent.

The weather department expected that the temperature could rise above 37 degrees Celsius in the day time from March 7, 2025.
