After enduring a significant heatwave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for unseasonal rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in isolated locations across Maharashtra. The alert has been issued for North Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions. However, no rainfall alert has been issued for Mumbai and its metropolitan areas. The city’s weather is expected to remain dry and windy over the next few days.

Mumbai has been experiencing partly cloudy skies and windy conditions for the past couple of days. On Friday, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degree C and a minimum of 22.7 degree C, while the Colaba observatory recorded 32.4 degree C (maximum) and 25 degree C (minimum).

According to the IMD's 48-hour forecast for Mumbai and its suburbs, the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to rise to 37 degree C and 23 degree C, respectively. IMD Mumbai Director Sunil Kamble stated, "There are chances of rain with thunderstorms in parts of the state, and a yellow alert has been issued. However, no alert has been issued for Mumbai. Due to strong westerly winds, the city will continue to experience dry and windy conditions for the next few days."

Rainfall Predictions for Maharashtra

As per the IMD’s March 21 weather report, unseasonal rainfall is expected on Saturday in Marathwada East and West Vidarbha, For Sunday, the alert remains in place for all regions except Marathwada, where the weather is expected to stabilize.

The main reason of unexpected rainfall in March and April is an annual phenomenon caused by shifting weather patterns as the region enters the peak summer season. While temperatures have slightly dipped this week, the IMD’s Summer 2025 outlook predicts above-normal temperatures for the upcoming season.
