The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which gained major popularity in the state, is undergoing a scrutiny process following the assembly election results. The government has initiated the exclusion of women who do not meet the eligibility criteria. So far, more than 5 lakh women have been disqualified from the scheme, while authorities continue to verify cases of ineligible beneficiaries still availing its benefits.

The installment for February under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana may be delayed as the government continues verifying ineligible beneficiaries. It is being reported that eligible women will not receive the payment until the verification process is completed.

Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare recently outlined the scheme's eligibility criteria and disclosed the number of women who have been disqualified so far.

As per government decisions issued on June 28, 2024, and July 3, 2024, women who do not meet the eligibility criteria are being excluded from the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. The details of the disqualified beneficiaries have been compiled as part of the ongoing verification process.

Meanwhile, to enhance the scheme's operational efficiency, the Chief Minister has approved the purchase of computers and printers within a budget of Rs 5 crore. This upgrade will support the Women and Child Development Department in Mumbai, the Commissioner of Women and Child Development in Pune, and District Women and Child Development Officers.

The state government has approved Rs 3 crore for the social and digital media promotion of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, with Rs 1.5 crore allocated to each platform.

Meanwhile, while the scheme benefits women, other sectors are facing financial strain. The government has reportedly defaulted on payments totaling Rs 90,000 crore over the past three years, prompting contractors to halt work until dues are cleared. The issue was highlighted at a press conference by the Builders Association of India, Maharashtra State Contractors Association, and Hotmix Association in Mumbai.
