NIA is probing if Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze was present at the spot (near Antilia where the Scorpio was abandoned) on the night of the incident, said sources in NIA on Monday.

NIA is probing if the man who is seen in a CCTV grab near Antilia, wearing a PPE on the night when Scorpio was parked, is Sachin Waze or not. NIA is checking his alibi, CCTV footage etc, added the source.

As per Mumbai Police probe CCTV footages of the area revealed that the SUV with a couple of unidentified persons in it was driven and parked beside a tree on the Carmichael Road at around 1 a.m on the night of the incident. The suspicious persons seemed to have fled after deserting the SUV there, but strangely, it was noticed only after another 12 hours.

Mumbai Police's Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze nabbed by the NIA minutes before Saturday midnight in connection with the case involving an abandoned SUV found near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani was on Sunday sent to the agency's custody till March 25.

Vaze, 49, has been booked by the NIA in connection with the SUV and he is also being simultaneously probed by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad for the mystery death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren - two cases which sparked off a nationwide political furore.
