In a shocking incident a Mumbai Crime branch on Monday arrested a TV actor for robbing elderly persons by posing as cop. The accused has been identified as a member of the Irani gang that targets senior citizens by posing as cop and makes away with gold ornaments after telling them to keep them in bag as police are conducting checks ahead.

The police arrested Salman Jafari alias Zakir alias Actor (40) from Andheri (W) in a joint operation conducted by Dehradun's Patel Nagar police and Mumbai crime branch (unit VIII) on Monday.

On being questioned Jafari said that he was a TV actor but confessed to the crime later as he had no work. Jafari has robbed people in various states and returned to Mumbai with the loot after he booked to-and-fro flight tickets.

Patel Nagar police tracked Jafari's location after he looted a senior citizen of gold ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh in Dehradun on December 3. DCP Akbar Pathan, who supervised a team including inspector Sanjeev Gawade tracked down Jafari.
