The Maharashtra government on Friday decided to start Mumbai local train service for general public from February 1.

The state authorities have however put timing restrictions in place to manage the crowd. As of now, it has been decided that general public will be allowed to travel before 7am, between 12 noon and 4pm and then again after 9pm.Check out Timings: 12 pm to 4 pm9 pm to 7am 

Even if local trains resume for ordinary citizens, people should follow all the rules in view of COVID-19, wear masks, take care of themselves, follow social distance, said Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had on Monday held a review meeting to discuss restarting soon Mumbai's local train services for the general public, with COVID-19 protocols in place.

Many senior officials of Railways along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, Mumbai police commissioner also attended the meeting.

At present, in view of the pandemic, only certain people categorised as essential workers were allowed to board the trains with women commuters being allowed during dedicated time slots in the local trains.
