Due to the outbreak of corona, only essential service personnel are allowed to travel in Mumbai local trains. However, it has come to light that some ordinary passengers are also traveling by local in violation of the rules. Many passengers are traveling without tickets or fake identity cards. Mumbai's Central Railway Department has taken action against a total of 75,000 people who have been traveling illegally in the last 60 days. The railways have also received crores of rupees in fines.

According to Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway, action has been taken against a total of 75,793 passengers traveling illegally from April 1 to May 31. The Railways has recovered a total of Rs 3 crore 97 lakh as penalty. Ordinary citizens have been banned from traveling in local trains since April 14. Only staff engaged in essential services are permitted to use local train services.

Besides, the Railways has taken action against 1,061 passengers who did not wear masks between April 17 and May 21. According to the data released by the Railways, so far the Railway Administration has taken action against 808 passengers who were traveling with fake identity cards. A fine of Rs 500 each has also been levied on such passengers. It has been seen that most of the people are traveling with fake identity cards of the corporation.
