Nagpur, Maharashtra (March 18, 2025): Police and security personnel conducted a flag march in violence-hit areas of Nagpur on Tuesday to restore confidence among residents. The move followed Monday’s clashes over demands to remove Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s grave.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal said cases have been registered, and arrests are underway. “Our action to establish peace is continuing. Social media is being monitored, and we are developing the information we are getting. Whether someone was conspiring and how many people were involved is being investigated,” Singal said.

Violent clashes broke out in Chitnis Park in Nagpur around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Stones were hurled at police after rumors spread about the burning of a holy book. Another violent incident occurred in the Hansapuri area near Old Bhandara Road between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Several vehicles were set on fire, and houses and a clinic were vandalized. Police have taken more than 50 people into custody and registered five FIRs.

Police imposed a curfew in multiple areas of Nagpur city under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The restrictions will remain in place until further notice. The curfew applies to police station limits in Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar.
