The Thackeray government decided to recruit the largest police force in the state at its cabinet meeting on Wednesday. But the decision has been opposed by leaders of the Maratha community.

On September 9, the Supreme Court directed that no quota will be granted to people of the Maratha community in education and jobs in the state this year and referred the hearing on a batch of plea challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law granting Maratha reservation in education and jobs to a larger bench..

In this backdrop, angry reactions are coming from the Maratha community against the decision of police recruitment in the state. MP Narayan Rane has questioned the role of the state government and demanded that the recruitment should not happen unless the Maratha community gets justice.

Rane accused the state government of not willing to give the quota to the community. “They did not appoint any renowned lawyer to contest their case as they were not willing to give the quota. They appointed two ordinary lawyers,” he alleged.

Rane said that the matter would have been in the government’s favour if they had presented their side properly.

He also said that the decision to recruit police in the state was in a way rubbing salt on the wounds of the Maratha community. Uddhav Thackeray have never felt love and faith for the Maratha community. Rane has also made serious allegations against the CM Thackeray that he was against reservation.
