Commuters in Nashik can expect traffic disruptions within the city for the next 18 months as the Traffic Department announces the closure of roads leading to the Central Bus Stand (CBS) from April 8, 2024, to August 8, 2025.

The closure is necessary for the concretization of the CBS to Canada Corner road, a project undertaken by the Nashik Municipal Corporation's western division public works department. The extended roadwork is likely to impact residents' routines, particularly during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Road Closures and Diversions

Eight roads connected to this main thoroughfare will be closed for the next year and a half. Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Chandrakant Khandvi issued an official notification outlining the affected areas and restrictions:

  • No Entry Zones:
    • Canada Corner to CBS
    • Mela Station via District Hospital, Thakkar Bazar, Mela Bus Stand via Kishore Sudharalay
    • Swimming Pool, Ramayana Bungalow, Tilakwadi via CBS signal
    • CBS via Raka Colony, Kulkarni Garden, and Pandit Colony
  • Road Diversions:
    • To CBS via Canada Corner: Take the alternative route via Old Gangapur Naka-Marathon Chowk-Ashok Stambh.
    • Alternative route via Canada Corner: Take Old Police Commissionerate-Mico Circle-Modak Signal.
  • One-Way Road:
    • One-way traffic will be implemented from CBS signal to Canada Corner, as dictated by construction needs.
  • No Parking Zone:
    • An 18-month no-parking zone will be enforced for 100 meters on either side of the road from CBS to Canada Corner.

Traffic Management and Safety

These measures aim to ensure the project's smooth execution and minimize inconvenience to commuters. Barricading will be set up from CBS to Canada Corner, along with directional signs for safety. Traffic wardens will be stationed on both sides for control. The concerned department and contractor will be held responsible for any accidents. Blinkers must be used at night to prevent accidents. The contractor is required to activate CCTV and traffic signals before commencing work. Completing the project within the designated timeframe is mandatory.
